Description Of Work:

Repaired a badly damaged mahogany highboy

Comments:

I had a beautiful mahogany highboy which was badly damaged by the moving company -- one of the securing straps broke and this piece literally fell over inside the moving truck.  The curved top of the piece was broken into three pieces, two of the tall legs were cracked off, and the fronts of most of the drawers were all deeply scratched.  The moving company sent the piece to their repair person and five months later, it was delivered to me.  It was such terrible work and I was so sick about this piece that I actually cried!  Every time I'd look at this piece, I'd get upset because it looked so awful.  I decided I had to have it restored to its original beauty and I started researching people in the area who did furniture restoration.  That's how I found Joe Naiser!
Joe came to my house to look at the piece and assess what would need to be done to restore it.  He was very clear with me that he takes time with every piece he repairs, so this could take a while.  He also told me he wasn't the cheapest, and he wrote out the whole estimate for me to review.  I wanted my piece repaired properly and I was willing to be patient and willing to pay for the craftsmanship Joe provides.
Joe took the piece to his shop and once he began the work, he realized there was much more damage that couldn't be seen on initial inspection.  This wasn't a play for more money; he merely wanted me to be aware it would take a bit more time than anticipated.  I was willing to wait for him to work his magic.  When it was ready for final finishing, Joe asked me to come to the shop and preview stain and finish samples he had prepared because he wanted me to personally approve the exact color and finish before it went on the piece.  The personal attention to the work and to the customer is exceptional!
The end result was MORE THAN I COULD HAVE WISHED FOR!!!  When Joe delivered the finished piece to my home I couldn't believe how beautiful it looked (better than when it was new I think!) and I was so thankful for his expertise and so grateful I'd found him.  His attention to detail is unbelievable.  I wouldn't hesitate to use him again, and I'd highly recommend him to others.

Repaired and refinished a badly broken mahogany rocker.

Comments:

The rocking chair was inherited from my husband's family and was something we loved and wanted to restore when it got broken.  The job was a very difficult one, and Mr. Naiser was very thorough and honest in explaining what needed to be done to repair the chair and what the cost would be.  He provided a written, very detailed estimate of his work and the cost. The quality of the repair and refinishing work was excellent, and the chair is now sturdier and looks more beautiful than ever.

Refinished child's table and 2 chairs

Comments:

When our children become adults and have children, often their childhood toys become treasures. Our daughter's table where she had tea parties with her dolls and grandfather was one of those treasures.
Naiser treated them like the treasures we thought they were. He fully explained the process as well as what products he would use. He was patient with our questions and took every effort to be certain we would receive the service he described.
At completion of the work, the table and chairs became a treasure her daughter could enjoy.

Perfectly restored a 1920's mahogany/gumwood four poster bed that I had purchased 30 years ago.  Joe fixed all the cracks and broken areas where the slats met with the frame.  The headboard is now beautiful.  He also taught me about gumwood, which I had never heard of before.  It is now in beautiful condition and I know it will survive another 100 years

Comments:

It was Winter when he restored my bed.  When it was done, he made sure that it was secure in my truck and covered from the elements when I brought it home.

They restored a secretary that I thought was too far gone. My mother had stained it and gold washed for and old fashion look.
Joe not only restored it but looked all over to get the right brass drawer pulls etc. He truly takes pride in his work.
He also suggested I not finish the top shelf that I could use on the secretary, saying it was not worth the money.

Comments:

It went great, Joe has restored at least 6 pieces for me , I would recommend him to anyone.
He was prompt and courteous.

Description Of Work:

We had a dining room chair that had the front legs broken off. It was an older dining room set (but not antique) that made it almost impossible to find a chair like the one that had been broken.

Comments:

Joe was able to salvage much of the original wood, make the repairs and finish it so that it's probably stronger than before and you can't even tell it was broken. The work was done on time and on budget. When we first went to Joe's shop he showed us a binder filled with photos of his work and you could tell that he took great pride in his work. Whether you have furniture that needs to be repaired or just refinished I would definitely recommend Naiser for the work.

Description Of Work:

Joe Naiser repaired the fire damage on our cherry wood dining table. In previous years Joe also repaired broken legs of dining chairs.

Comments:

The surface of our large dining table was damaged by fire. We brought Joe in to do the repair and it was determined that in order to match the color with the dining chairs, he needed to resurface 12 dining chairs as well. Joe worked with the insurance company and got them to agree to this claim. It took a little while but when he came back with the table and chairs, they looked better than new!!
We are delighted with his work and will use him again when needed. He also repaired a small antique oak wood chest and one or two broken legs of our dining chairs.
We feel blessed to have Joe nearby in Northern Kentucky. He is a real craftsman and an artist!

repaired and restored a wooden kitchen table that has been in the family for 40 years.

Comments:

The repairs and restoration of this old table were performed with professional craftsmanship. Initially I could not come to grips with putting $2000.00 into repairing this old table and chairs but, it had been in the family for approximately 40 years. When finished, it was like receiving a brand new kitchen table and chairs. I asked my brothers and sisters if they had any interest in the table before I sent it off for repair and restoration. My wife and I agreed to invest the money and gift the table to my daughter. This table and chairs will last another 40 years I'm convinced. I have great satisfaction knowing that this table I grew up sitting around with my 6 brothers/sisters, mom and dad will be used by my daughter and her family for a long time.

Description Of Work:

Joe repaired and refinished an antique cherry Jenny Lind bed - the side rail had split and was broken to where it could not be used.  After it was repaired, it was usable again and is beautiful.

Comments:

Everything went very well.  My daughters broke the bed by jumping on it which, of course, made me unhappy.  Joe explained after looking at it, that although they shouldn't have jumped on the bed, that it had cracks in it and would have broken eventually.  Not only did he help smooth everything over, he repaired the broken side rail, repaired cracks in the other one and totally stripped and refinished the whole bed.  He also repaired some broken spindles that had been broken since I was a little girl.   Joe understood my sentimental attachment to the antique and treated it with great care.  It is beautiful and is now used all of the time.  My parents would have loved the way it looks now and would have loved that their granddaughter uses it all the time now without worrying that it can withstand regular use.
Hopefully we won't need a lot more repairs, but I will definitely use Naiser Furniture Restorations to take care of our antiques.

Description Of Work:

Mr.  Naiser completely refinished a dining room set (Duncan Fife) sp? that belonged to my grandmother that she got new sometime during the 1950s.

Comments:

At the time I got the pieces, the finish on the table, sideboard and china cabinet was crazed, the finish had darkened quite a bit; and the china cabinet was missing some of the trim work.  However, those pieces had been retained by my grandmother and so were replaced by Mr. Naiser's workmen.  In addition to the large pieces there are six chairs that were refinished and reupholstered during the process.  At a later time Mr. Naiser refinished a cane bottom chair that had belonged to my wife's grandmother where the cane seat was missing as was a spindle in the seatback.  The chair has been restored to the point it now occupies a place in our living room.  It had been relegated to the basement awaiting a time when I would attempt to effect repairs myself.  Glad I waited and had the professionals execute the repairs as now the piece is usable.  I was most impressed with the work on the spindle that replaced the missing one in the seatback.
More recently I have contacted Joe about repairing and refinishing some kitchen chairs that we've had for 43 years. Just haven't gotten them down to him yet. My experience with this company has been positive from the beginning. Work has been done on time and on budget.  Mr Naiser loves his work and it shows.  I got the dollar tour of his shop before any of my furniture left my house and he also showed pictures of previous work he has performed for other clients.   I was very comfortable leaving my family legacy in his capable hands.
I have recommended his business to my friends and work acquaintances.

Repaired and restored an antique table that was in terrible shape.

Comments:

When I took our table to Joe Naiser's shop, I was hopeful, but realistically doubting that he could give new life to our dining room table.  Our table has been in the family for over 100 years.  It had many cracks and broken edges, but I treasure it, knowing that it is a family heirloom.  Mr. Naiser certainly came through !  He carefully explained all that was needed.  He re-worked the edges so that the cracks and the missing chunks weren't an issue.   He reworked and replaced antique hardware and wooden pegs.  His repairs were expertly done, as was the finish. The finish on the table is beautiful, and the table now is a beautiful piece in our dining room.  Throughout the process, Mr. Naiser was very patient in answering my questions and concerns.  He set up a payment plan with me, so that I didn't have to use my credit card.  I made several visits to his shop, and each time I was greeted and treated warmly and with respect.  I would recommend this for any piece of furniture.  My table was in such terrible shape, but now is a beautiful heirloom!

Description Of Work:

Rebuilt, recaned, replaced missing spindles, and refinished my Grandmothers rocking chair.  The chair had been "fixed" by my Grandfather with a piece of cardboard for a seat.  Joe removed the cardboard, filled in the nail holes, found a piece of 100 year old oak to make a replacement spindles that were broken and lost years ago.  Stripped all of the old finish from all of the parts, reassembled, realigned, recaned, and refinished the chair.  The replacement spindles matched the original items in color and texture so perfectly only Joe knows witch ones he made.  The finish we chose for the chair was applied flawlessly.

Comments:

When Joe started this project I wondered if the rocker could be saved.  The seat was something Grandpa found in a junk yard and "tacked" in place using any fastener he had in the barn at the time.  The chair was a reclaimed from the junk yard item.  The rockers were different lengths, and the chair was full of "hold it together" nails & stuff.  My Dad remembers finding the rocker in a pile of broken chairs in the depression era.  He bought it for a dollar. Together Dad and Grandpa replaced a rocker and seat.  The chair came from a very small town in Missouri.  The background of the chair, Joe wanted to know so he could restore not just the chair but a piece of history.  Joe looked for and found a piece of old oak of the same color and texture to make the replacement spindles with.  His extensive craftsman skills, knowledge of antique furniture manufacturing, and care of the end result made the restoration a total success.  Joe has rebuilt antique rose back chairs, and a mahogany table with severely shattered legs for us in the past.  Every time I have taken him a "can it be saved project" he has exceeded my thoughts of the end product.  In a few words, the end result was perfect.

Restored a small antique table.

Comments:

The piece was badly damaged.  It had a beautiful veneer, featuring an intricate inlay of contrasting light and dark woods.  I carelessly let water sit on the table and this not only stained half of the veneer completely black, but, even worse, lifted that portion off the surface.  This black slice of wood then waffled when it dried.  The restoration Mr. Naiser worked was remarkable.  He not only flattened the veneer to perfection, but unbelievably removed all of the stain, and returned the veneer to a stunning beauty!  He finished up by bringing out on the rest of the table a luster we had never seen before.  It is phenomenal what he was able to do.  His work is truly artistry.  He is a master.

Completely restored a badly damaged cherry drop leaf table that my great great grandmother had purchased in the 1840's in New York.

Comments:

The  cherry drop leaf table top had been damaged by water over many years of abuse by a family of twelve.  Mr Naiser was able to make the top look as good as new.
One of the drop leaf sides had actually split because of the very dry air that it had been exposed to over the years.  Mr Naiser was able to repair all of that damage.
He picked up and delivered this table after it was finished.

Description Of Work:

I have had Joe do two projects for me.  The first was a large 8 ft bookcase from the 1880's that was literally falling apart if you even touched it.  Someone had once tried to refinish it and it was a mess.  The original glass was intact however.  The second project involved a curio cabinet of the same era that had been painted pink.  Besides doing the highest quality work, all of the glass on both pieces was preserved.  When he delivered the large bookcase he went inch by inch so as to not touch the walls.  It was a very close fit but he was intent on delivering the piece in the museum quality condition he had restored it to.

Comments:

Beyond perfect!  Each piece I have had done is of what I consider to be museum quality.  I visited his workshop once and he spent a significant amount of time hand mixing various finishes and apply test strips so I could pick out exactly the color and finish I wanted.  Nothing but the finest materials were used to repair as needed.  Everything took time but it was finished right on schedule.  I would go on but I cannot offer anything but praise and the reader would think I was related to Joe or something.  If you want craftsmanship of the highest quality, this is the place to find it.
